Research into discrimination in academia and its effects

Tonight I was informed that the following incident has taken place, and want
to ask you all your opinion on it . . . legally, ethically, morally,
theoretically and so forth.
A member of one office US social category was elected to representative office
for a mixed academic category group. The announcement speech of that elected
representative was that all members of one of the categories which composed
the group needed to `suffer' before they had any chance of understanding
the problems of the category to which the elected official belonged.
Would you please send me your comments on this incident?
