I have enjoyed the discussion about software. There ought to be more. I
think that NUD.IST is probably more program than most of us need,
ethnograph has definite niche, but remains somewhat expensive. NUD.IST
is more so. ASKSAM has been around for a while, too, and is less
exprensive, I think.
Another program that I have begun to use for field notes is INFO SELECT 3
by MICRO LOGIC (POB &), Hackensack, NJ 07602. This is a free-form
Personal Information Manager (PIM) and includes suggestions and
organization formatting for everything from field notes to telephone
books. It is relatievly inexpensive (about $100, I think, I recently
bought the cheaper upgrade for about $60). It retrieves and locates
individual field notes which can be counted and sorted. Ver 3 is quite a
bit better than Ver2. Files can be easily exported to your word
processor and you can import your word processing files into it.

Has anyone else used this program?

Tim
