Several people wanted to know the full citations for the Maurice Bloch
essays that I referred to in my request for a discussion of Bloch.

The full citations are "The Past and the Present in the Present." _Man_
(NS), 12: 278-292, 1977, and "From cognition to ideology," in Fardon,
Richard (ed.) _Power and Knowledge: Anthropological and Sociological
Approaches._ Edinburgh: Scottish Academic Press (Smithsonian).

Another more recent essay by Bloch, which is a continuation of his basic
theoretical framework is "Language, Anthropology and Cognitive Science."
(The Frazer Lecture) _Man_ (NS) 26, 183-198. 1990.

Not chaos-like, together crushed and bruised,
But, as the world harmoniously confused:
Where order in variety we see,
And where, though all things differ, all agree
