Dear Anthro-l List Moderator(s)

Yesterday, I have asked you to post "invitation
to join the list transcultural-psychology".

Regarding subscription procedures, I had to find out later in
the day that one InterPsych subscription facility does
not seem to work fully yet.

Subscribers-in-spe need to send
"subscribe transcultural-psychology" to
listserv@netcom.com, rather than interpsych@netcom.com
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I have attached the corrected invitation below.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may be causing.

Sincerely yours Sunkyo

INVITATION
TO JOIN THE
TRANSCULTURAL-PSYCHOLOGY
SCHOLARLY ELECTRONIC CONFERENCE

The InterPsych (TM) conference TRANSCULTURAL-PSYCHOLOGY
(short: TP) has been established to provide a world-wide
electronic forum for the exchange of ideas, opinions, and
information among professionals interested in cross-cultural
research, minority issues, and indigenous psychologies. A topic
of particular relevance is the delivery of mental health
services to individuals from non-Western cultures/minorities.

The conference is intended for professionals and
professionals-to-be from the social, behavioral, and medical
sciences - among others for psychologists, social workers,
psychiatrists - in both academic and applied settings.
However, participation of others, f.i. in the humanities,
computer science, traditional healers, and the media, is
actively encouraged: The breadth and diversity of the list
constitutes one of its crucial and most valuable resources.

As with any conference, TP's value will be proportional to the
effort that those contributing to it are prepared to make
in provoking stimulating and thoughtful discussion. Personal
insights, research findings, philosophical outlooks, inquiries,
or practical/clinical experiences on topics such as the
following are invited:

* Culture-specific syndromes, and the methods one might use to
diagnose and treat such syndromes.
* Possibilities for collaboration between Western trained
mental health practitioners, and traditional healers.
* The application or misapplication of Western mental health
techniques and ideology in cross-cultural settings.
* The adequacy of various classification systems (example:
ICD and DSM) and assessment techniques in cross-cultural
settings.
* The invariant and variant features of mental disorders across
cultures.
* Whether and how our increasing emphasis on the biological
aspects of mental disorders has modified the nature of our
interventions in cross-cultural settings.
* Aspects of boosting mental-health service utilization by
minorities.
* The appropriateness of mainstream paradigms in psychology in
non-Western societies.
* Issues related to methods and methodology in cross-cultural
research.
