Eric,

I remember reading somewhere about virtual reality programs that allow persons
studying complex molecules to walk/float around models of molecules and play
with them like tinkertoys in virtual space. This sort of program would surely
help you escape the constraints of the traditional kinship diagram. I'm sorry I
don't know the names of programs that allow this, but a check with some virtual
reality folks might be fruitful.
