Re: "Mankind," sex marking and kin terms

The words "mankind" and "man" were popularized by male anthropologists
when anthropology first emerged as a discipline. There were very few
female anthropologists at this time because women were not yet permitted
into universities and colleges, for the most part. Now that possibly 50%
of anthropologists are female,many of them feel that these words do not
