I've neglected the FIELD GEAR thread, so I apologize for any duplication, but
I wanted to heap lavish praise on one field product above many others:
synthetic paper. Having spent prolonged time in the "liquid sunshine" of
British Columbia with various inscriptional technologies, I unreservedly
recommend the virtually indestructable "plastic paper" and #2 pencil. The
paper I used was made by Nalgene (the Chemistry (plastic) Lab Ware people)
and has been listed in their catalog (I believe the brand name was
Tyvex). For notes and field labels it was excellent. It survived months
(years?) of bacterial attack, oil and gasoline, soil, and trampeling.
