a little more on (cf. a fat moron) PC

Matt and others

I did not mean to insinuate that Ruby was the cause of all the trouble
concerning inclusive/exclusive language. Certainly not! Her points are
entirely valid, but I felt that the extreme emotion in her response
APPEARED to alienate her adversary to the extent that I don't think I
ever even heard his side of the argument, beyond just defensive
posturing. Personally, I can't even imagine using the term *mankind* with
a straight face, but I would have liked to have heard a reasoned and calm
explanation for this particular use of the term in the spirit of
intelligent discussion.

But I must protest your defense of political correctness. I don't use it
in the same way as the fat man does. By PC, he means simply liberalism. I
see it as a lack of tolerance for discussion based on the banning of
certain "codewords" or deviation from a set-in-concrete agenda. It a
weapon of some liberals AGAINST OTHER LIBERALS and as such, it is
divisive. For example, a devoted champion of liberal causes who is also a
devout Catholic might find him- or herself banished from the movement for
not wholeheartedly speaking out in a pro-choice manner. This sort of PC
behavior does nothing to promote the fight against conservatism.
