Ran across two sets of numbers yesterday that may be of interest to
people on the list:

Number of people killed over the last year in Hutu-Tutsi fighting in
Burundi: 100,000, according to Amnesty International (Toronto Globe &
Mail 27 Jan, p. A9).

Number of people killed in thirteen years of fighting between Shining
Path (Sendero) and government forces in Peru: 26,000 (Orin Starn,
"Rethinking the politics of anthropology," in CA 35(1), p. 15).
