Another factor to consider in "what is culture?" is evolution. Culture,
or some aspects of the culture, must be "reproduced" in some way (i.e. passed
to a new generation). The culture would also evolve: some non-necessary
or harmful aspects would not be passed on. If harmful aspects of culture
are passed on, or if necessary aspects are not passed on, the population
would begin to decline. Culture must embody both a certain amount of
"knowledge" or "behavior" and the ability to transfer that knowledge to
successor generations.
