I'd like to point out that the comment "I can get it for you wholesale",
which was the point of the buying retail flare, was actually a set of code
words for an active underground market among the Lower East Side residents of
New York. This phrase is/was used by Jews and others to stimulate a market
economy in the garment district of New York. I have never heard of anyone
suggesting that it meant that Jews were cheap. An interesting sidelight to
this stereotype is the fact that Scotsmen are also considered thrifty and
penny pinching.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, sarcasm doesn't work well
electronically. Thank, Mike, for the parting shot.
