It seems to me that "mutilations" and "deformations" would be
objectionable terms only if they were applied entirely to cultures other
than ours. If we remember to include corsets, high-heels, circumcision,
plastic surgery, and ear-piercing as examples in our own society, even
the strictest captains of the political correctness industry scarcely
