On the issue of physical/cultural anthropology in the states, and the four
fields.
As an observer from the UK it is interesting to note that the areas of
physical and cultural and anthropology are diverging at precisely the time
that in some UK departments, they are coming together, both by promoting
degree courses in general anthropology (ie both physical and social - as it
is over here), and developing research projects which stress the
integration of physical body and sociocultural traits. I am thinking here
of work in cognitive and related fields.
Perhaps there is something in this, though what it might be, I'm not at all
sure.
