Request for Info on the Great Deluge Myth

I am interested in finding out how common the "great deluge" myth is in
traditional cultures/religions.

I once heard that one native band on the North American west coast (sorry, I
don't remember which one) even told about a man in a "great canoe" that came
to save the animals. How common is the idea that there was a great flood?
How common is this idea of a man that went around to save the animals?
