Clearly you aren't a Southeast Asianist! Switching ethnicity is a well-known
phenomenon in Thailand and Burma. For a great example, read E. Leach's
_Political Systems of Highland Burma_. Peter Kunstadter has documented this
phenomenon in recent times.
