I can't be sure (a student has borrowed the book) but I believe that
there is a reference to chimp "castration" in a wonderful book by
Frans de Waal entitled "Chimpanzee Politics". If I recall correctly,
the incident was the consequence of a fight between two males to
establish dominance in a troop (captive). After the fight de Waal
noted that the loser had lost at least one testicle.

You might also take a look at Jane Goodall's path-breaking work on the
warfare between the Kahama and Kasakela troops at Gombe. Similar
behavior may have been reported there.
