I am forwarding the following query from a colleague who is not on the list. I
can forward any replies to him. Thanks.

I am investigating the cultural practice of sin
eating. It appears to be a Britanic custom where a member of the community is
called on eat a meal that the newly deceased's family prepares. He or she eats
the meal in close proximity to the cadaver and consumes the sins with the meal.
Sort of your transubstantiation ritual.

I am having trouble getting any cites or articles on it. Can you you help?
