Hi Henry,

Just following up on my letter request, as you suggested. I know you sent
off the one to Kansas; the others mentioned in my fax were for Dartmouth (a
post-doc) and Willamette University (tenure-track).

Disappointing news from Hartwick, where I interviewed recently. The dept.
wanted to hire me, but the admin. informed them that they WILL be offering
the job to the African American candidate -- if she turns them down, they'll
reopen the search. They let the dept. go through the whole process without
telling them this was their agenda. ( This is the third one of these for
me.) *Acting affirmatively* I have initiated a new batch of applications
I'd been deferring until hearing from Hartwick. Losing my appetite, I must say.

In any case, I appreciate your efforts as ever.
