what is it about e-lists and their members that when hardwickian vortices
[(c) dooglie the sniffler, 1995] such as this johnson tripe come along,
rather than sitting back, stifling a yawn, and waiting for the flatulence
to subside, said member engage in a kind of simulation of real debate.
Feeds the frenzy, puts the original mouth breathing paranoiac into high
gear, and clutters clutters clutters the ol' e-waves.....
finally, once the parnoia breaks out like flesh eating disease into inane
name calling, the thread degrades into yet another 'why can't we talk
civilly and stop calling each other names' breast beating spasm.....
the johnson's of this world are like the people who sit beside you on a
bus...they usually have a heavily chewed donut shop coffee cup, the
contents of which spend most of its time dribbling down their chins, and
they usually bend your ear with a history of the conspiracies which kept
them from becoming a bus driver, ballet dancer, governor, etc etc....
now, on the bus, the best strategy is a few well placed uh huh's, and a
solemn prayer that the raging bullshitter beside you has only a short
distance to travel...
but on e-lists....
sheesh....
has no one bothered to read this lunatics messages...they are peppered
with readers digest level allusions to social theory or history [ the
capper for me was the reference, in a context which has left me more
breathless than the pneumonia i am fighting, to hannah arendt..i mean,
people, arguing with this guy is like arguing with a bread box]...they
are what lawyers objecting to answers gone awry refer to, completely
unresponsive to the question posed.....
criticisms of anthropology as a discipline, and of anthropologists as any
number of devil's spawn, abound....but this ain't one of them....and i
stand amazed that anyone has even bothered to respond ...
just think of hardwickian vortices as tiny tornadoes....go stand under
the nearest doorway until it passes...and remember to open the window so
the smell can get out....
