I am just a humble physical anthropologist, and I seldom try to get
involved with 'cultural anthropological' threads, but I would like to
applaud Robert Thorton's post regarding the rather savage remarks from
colorado. I have had the privelege of working in South Africa several
times on the fossil australopithecines, the first visit being in 1969,
the second in 1971/72, where I actually 'resided' for close to 6 months.
The aagain in the '70's and lastly in 1982. I was appalled by Apartheid
in S. Africa, but often equally so by much of the oversimplistic bombastic
pseudoliberal cryptofacist crap that i have had to listen to from social
anthropologists here, however well-intentioned (which I sometimes
also seriously doubt). I too will be very interested to see how one
addresses these very real cases...
