native peoples have developed the genetic basis and a repository of
plant resistence to pests. Potatoes, Tomatoes, Corn, Tabacco, to name a few
just in the american continent. Native Asians and Africans have done the
same for Wheat, Rice, barley and sorgum.
Who has benefited?
The Nabiscos, Reynolds, ADM's, Kellog and many other that using current
patent laws ... turn around and charge the same natives for their
efforts. ANd thats not to mention the role of natives in the descovery of
pharmaceuticals, natural pigments, etc etc for which they are payed
with a dam to kill their fish or kill their kids from leishmaniasis.
