Archaeology field school in Cyprus

The University of Indianapolis announces the third season of its
archaeological field school at ancient Idalion in Cyprus. Operating under
the authority of the University of Arizona we are helping dig an important
cultic sanctuary area probably dedicated to Apollo. Idalion flourished as
an important city kingdom in the Classical period and continued to be an
important site through the Roman era. The site is rich in pottery, and
small finds have included figurines, sculpture, coins, beads, terracottas,
metal, etc.
The field school is co-directed by Dr. Philip H. Young, a classical
archaeologist from the University of Indianapolis, and Bonny Bazemore, an
archaeologist and staff member of the Cyprus American Archaeological
Research Institute located in Nicosia. Specialists at the dig will lecture
on their areas of interest, and students will participate in tours to other
digs and sites in Cyprus.
The field school will run approximately July 3 to August 13. Students may
earn academic credit for one or two three-hour courses depending on whether
they stay for three or six weeks. Participants are not required to earn
academic credit and may dig for either or both sessions. Costs are $350
per week for all participants which includes "room," board and trips.
Tuition for one session is $408 and for two sessions $816. Participants
must make their own travel arrangements.
