Re: race in commercials

I am not sure who posted it earlier, but the facts are that advertising
is to make money. Twenty years ago, you would probably never have seen a
commercial with a black person on it, unless it was directed towards
blacks for something like Afro-Sheen. Today, companies are realizing
that we live in a wanna-be, politically "correct" society, and for these
companies to reach out to a wider, maybe more modern group of people,
they need to touch upon the "political correctness" that is or isn't in
their ads. As Dorothy pointed out, Bennetton has been giving us
multi-racial ads for years...a very profitable company. I don't know. I
just find it hard to believe that you have never taken notice of a
person's race in a commercial. What kind of environment did you grow up
in? Was it multi-cultural? Was there racism? All of these things, and
more, will affect your outlook yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Just some thoughts...
