"Hundred-percent American" is several paragraphs from Ralph Linton's
introductory text, *The Study of Man*, first published in 1936 I
believe; if memory serves, it's near the beginning of a chapter on
diffusion. Linton was a fine writer, and this is truly one of the gems
of anthropological prose. Edward B. Tylor once wrote in the same vein,
but more formally and briefly. --Bob Graber
