I've been interviewing African American families in the Chicago area who
have children with learning disabilities. The point is to understand the
family's perspective on these children. I've also gotten quite
interested in the variety of extended family structures (fictive kin and
the like) that come into play in caring for these children. But I'm still
quite unfamiliar with relevant anthropological literature that might help
me think about this. (I know about Carol Stack's very interesting
work.) Any suggestions?
