Just wanted to say Amen to your commentary on the thread... As someone
who thinks that anthropologists have much to contribute to public policy
debates, and to forging some creative solutions to real problems, it is
distressing how effete anthropologists sound when talking about issues.
One of my job-related tasks is attracting minorities into the discipline.
This dichotomizing, argumentative, pendantic style is off-putting to
many people of color who's like to see what history and anthropological
wisdom tells about the perils of x and the wisdom of y... and how such
approaches might be useful in thinking through z issue.... Thanks for
your posting.
