USGS & Bur. of Mines in jeopardy....

A forthcoming Geotimes article tells how the incoming administration
has targetted the USGS and Bureau of Mines for abolition, as part of
the "Contract with America"! I realise that this is not directly
anthropological, but as a geoarchaeologist, I especially sympathise
with the situation.

Apparently Rep. Kasich (Rep-Ohio) is behind this action. He wants to
move all their activities into other groups, including universities
and the private sector. The net savings is in question, and the
allocation of funds for the transfer is vague too...
