Regarding your premise that North Americans are more subject to tabloid
culture. I agree that we are indeed consumers of the trivial and the
sensational on a major scale; yet we cannot ignore the degree to which
other parts of the world share our passion. The British tabloids are
notorious, and the degree to which the "soap opera" culture pervades
brazilian life approaches levels that would be thought extreme even in
north america. I agree that the extent to which these phenomena are the
result of the diffusion of NA traits is an interesting questions, but
perhaps even more interesting is the degree to which these traits havecome
to reflect the cultures that has adopted them.
