My two favorite U.S. ethnographies on men and masculinity are Mitchell
Duneier's "Slim's Table: Race, Respectability, and Masculinity"
(Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1992) and Stuart A. Marks's
"Southern Hunting in Black and White: Nature, History, and Ritual in a
Carolina Community" (Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press, 1991).
