The two possiblities I've heard of are Gigantopithecus (last fossil, I think, dates
to c. 1 Ma) or Neanderthals (last fossil dated to 30 ka - may have lasted until 27
ka) although you could choose any large extinct hominoid e.g. Ramapithecus,
etc.
