These books are described as presenting "an inspired analysis of the micro-
dramas of day-to-day living" and Goffman himself as "the most original
anthropologist of his generation, who turned his back on traditional
studies among remote tribes to look closely at people in his own, North
American culture..."

Sadly he died in 1982 at the age of 60 after major surgery.
