I know that you're into country living, but this is one of the best, if
not THE best, program in the West, so ruling it out because of location
is rather professionally shortsighted, IMO. A number of Europeanists
(Meg Conkey, etc.) reside there, and the school, from what I've heard
from friends, is very supportive of women and minorities.

The above schools vary considerably in theoretical framework as well,
so stating your preference there would also be helpful, e.g., UNM and
Washington are bastions of selectionism, whereas Berkeley is PM/PP
heaven.
