I would lean towards the CD. The media, and now the drives are very
economical. Furthermore, the shelf life of a CD is 100+ years and a
widely accepted standard.

Also, in regards to digitizing that audio data. I highly recommend
the Macintosh platform. There is excellent software available for
digitizing audio as well as CD burning.
