I would suggest that some of the doomsayers might have a vested interest
in making the anthropology job market less competitive.

However, I wouldn't rely on the prospect of a faculty position. A number
of us believe that anthropology is EXTREMELY important and applicable to
all of the numerous arenas of life, not just academics. Keeping this in
mind, graduate school forms a vital period of intellectual growth which
one can later build upon, no matter what job s(he) holds.
