Remains of a flute have been found in Slovenia. It has been
tentatively dated to between 40,000 and 80,000 years ago and is the oldest
musical instrument yet found. It was found in association with Neandertal
artefacts, reports the New York Times Oct. 29. 1996 in its Science
section.
