You may want to look at Navajo culture. Women tend to have a great deal
of "power", however there are no matriarchal societies or culturals that
exist or that have ever existed. Matrilineal and matrilateral, yes,
matriarchal, no. Look into Universal/Non-universal Feminst Theory as well.
