I would like to suggest a reading.
The book in question is called "Learning to Labour" by Paul Willis.

Willis in this landmark text attempts to reconcile the top down view of
culture as sui generis with the bottom up view.
By adding individuals as actors he demonstrates that we both produce and
are reproduced by culture.

I'd like to talk some more on this topic but it has been a while since I
read the book and would need to refer to my notes and since they aren't
available to me at this moment I'll shut up now.
