Well, it is in the Bible- the early old testament that was pretty much put
together 800-500 B.C. One would want to check whether any of the
cultures interacting with the Israeli's had seven day weeks.

Since many weekdays are named after the seven visible moving lights
in the sky- five planets, sun, and moon- that is another clue to
follow.
