Dear Newsgroupies

The U.K. based organisation 'Anthropology in Action' is organising a
conference in London on 20/21 October called 'How do we Teach and How do
we Learn Social Anthropology?' I have been delegated to write a piece
(3-4 pages) for the conference report on 'Teaching and Learning
Anthropology in the USA: a Comparative View'. I am particularly
interested in documenting new initiatives in undergraduate or
postgraduate anthropology curricula in the States which provide training
for people to develop careers in anthropology in academic and
non-academic settings. Medical anthropology, development anthropology,
museum anthropology and other new subfields (e.g. anthropological
journalism? come to mind. I am also interested in information on recent
curriculum changes/developments - experiments with internships,
placements, field or project work, distance learning and other uses of
information technology, and staff training and development. I am
currently looking through recent issues of Anthropology Newsletter and
other AAA publications for information, but I would lke to hear other
'voices'. So if you have experience of anything you would cont as an
initiative in the teaching or learning of anthropology in the USA (either
as a student or as a teacher) I would be glad o hear from you. I have a
deadline of the end of next week for completing this report, so speed in
response would be appreciate. You can either contact me individually or
this may well be a topic of interest to the whole group and could spark
debate. (I'm also planning to send this message out via anthro-l).

Best wishes to all
