So far in my research I have not found any reference to Neanderthal spinal
cannals being smaller than that found in current populations, more robust
perhaps but not smaller. As far as Walker and Shipmans' argument goes,
ie. that a smaller spinal cannal in H.e. negates speech potential, I find
this to be problematic. As far as I know there has never been a
demonstratable coorelation between spinal cord size and speech capability
and their assertion seems, to me, to be a bit of a strech.
