"Scars of Evolution" rebuttal wanted

Hold on to your blood pressure cuffs, but I just read "The Scars of
Evolution" and was wondering if there was a similar single-volume
treatment of the more conventional theor(ies) as to how the relevant
physiological changes took place (e.g., the savannah theory and/or its
successors). Something for the nonspecialist without a great deal of free
time?
