What other hat did you have in mind?

Sure. I could put on my fantasy author hat and write almost anything
about australopithecines and genus homo. My works might be delightfully
interesting (or boring and dull--whatever). But they would remain
fantasy and not science.

Unless you have physical evidence, all you have, however interesting, is
speculation.
