Neanderthal/spaeins common ancestor consensus?

Consensus in the world of paleoanthropology is a rare thing. As
far as I know, the question you ask is still a subject of great
debate and unresolved. There have been finds in the middle east,
notably Israel, Qafzeh cave, etc., that suggest some Neanders and
sapiens may have been living together, though this is still
murky. Not much help, I know, but that's about all I have on
this.
