I am sure you will get a lot of more detailed info but:
Basically, Dr Louis Alverez and his son equated a world wide layer of
iridium at a depth to indicate that it was 65,000,000 years old to
correspond with the extinction of dinasauers. Iridiun is rare on earth and
common in meteriotes. Such a missile would have vaporized and the dust
would settled all over the world. Others are not so sure. Search
scientific magazines intended for popular use and perhaps write to Dr.
Alverez since he started the rumor.
