Oh dear, oh dear. The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language is the work of one
man - David Crystal. He is a highly competent and erudite linguist. He does
not know everything, nor, in this book, did he attempt to write everything
he knows. He has produced a very useful work of reference - and linguists
will probably be contradicting it for some time to come.
