Re: Why assume that race matters?Tibor Benke (benke@SFU.CA)Sun, 23 Oct 1994 07:38:02 -0700
>why should it matter? At all? > I think the political agenda of the new right folks is to undermine the justification for and undo the affirmative action and compensatory stuff that American courts have instituted in the last thirty years and treat everyone on "merit". If differences in achievements can be shown to be "inate" then the poor, struggling taxpayer needn't spend his/her hard earned money on "foolishness" like head start nor any up and coming mediocre white male academic need worry that that sessional job will go to a hispanic woman to even out some ratio. Pretty scary I think. >@> Tibor Benke /benke@sfu.ca (^)%(#) >@> Graduate Student (MA program) >@> Department of Sociology and Anthropology >@> Simon Fraser University, >@> Burnaby, B.C., Canada.
