self advertising

I understand that Rushton's book advertisement was not appropriate for
this list, but I hope that the responses it raised do not discourage
others from posting when they have written new books. Perhaps a better (or
more tactful) way of letting others know about new books would have been for
Rushton to write that he had a new book out about race and that anyone
interested could email him personally to receive more info. Is that acceptable
or am I way off base with something that simple? Even though I have gone head
first into the computer age, I don't always know what anthropologists are
writting about. A simple message like the previous could help those
doing research on, oh say racism, without the connotation of being an
actual tasteless advertisement.
