Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for an assistant
professor tenure track position in historical archaeology beginning in
fall 1995. The position requires a specialization in the historical
archaeology of Sub-Saharan Africa or Asia. A Ph.D. at the time of
application and evidence of successful undergraduate teaching in a small
class setting are imperative. The candidate will teach a variety of
courses including archaeological method and theory, historical
archaeology, world prehistory, people and cultures of Sub-Saharan Africa
or Asia, African or Asian diaspora, as well as courses in anthropology or
sociology. Responsibilities include the direction of all archaeological
programs in the major, advising of archaeology students and field
placement. Two classes a year will be taught in the Great Books Seminar
Program which entails shared inquiry and critical use of these texts.
Experience in this method is desirable. Women and minorities are
