I'm a graduate student so I don't have any great examples of humorous
student mistakes, but I do have a humorous anecdote.

I was born and raised in a small town in Iowa. Before moving to Texas to
do graduate work in Anthropology, many people were curious about my "big
move." (Few people could fathom why I would want to leave the small town
I grew up in. Of course that's another story.

When I asked of my plans, I would respond with, "I'm going to study
Anthropology." By far, the most common response I got was, "When did you
start studying bugs?" This happened so many times, that I was beginning
to think that rural Iowans had some sort of fixation on bugs. Hey,
there's a new avenue of study for a budding (or bugging) anthropologist.
