The Pig wars were a little more complicated than Bonnie Blackwell makes
them out to be. The status of claims to the borders between Canada and the
U.S. on the Northwest coast were the stuff of politics in the 1850's and
the successful political campaign of Franklin Pierce was based on the
principles that led to the pig war.
